h2ope projects: investment opportunity

Our website contains a number of projects which are being offered as investment opportunities. However, we have to be very mindful of FSA regulations in the promotion of investments, whilst wanting to encourage the widest possible “community” involvement. We offer therefore, two different types of investment.

• Smaller scale investments which are geared towards a level of community ownershipin specific companies called industrial provident societies, which are carefully regulated to ensure a high level of community ownership. h2ope can offer investments in these projects via a prospectus which can be downloaded from the website. Currently, h2ope has undertaken four such share offers via a prospectus and are designed to attract people wishing to invest between £250 and £20,000.

• Larger investments focussed upon individuals (typically ‘High Net Worth Individuals’) who can declare themselves as ‘High Net Worth Individuals’ or ‘Sophisticated Individuals’ as defined by the Financial Services and Markets Act. H2ope has partnered with Resonance Ltd to help promote these investments. Neither h2ope nor Resonance Ltd are authorised to provide financial advice as defined by the United Kingdom Financial Services Authority, so these investments can only be made by people with the necessary competence and experience to assess the individual opportunities. People interested in larger investments will be directed to our contacts page and can make an enquiry. Upon receipt of the enquiry, they will be given the link to Resonance Ltd who will then undertake the necessary registration procedure for this kind of investor.

The projects listed below will indicate the scale of investment being offered.

Small Scale Project

Stockport

Stringer weir

Stringer weir in Stockport will have an installed capacity of between 75kW and 100kW, depending on the final detailed design. It will use a single Archimedean screw and we anticipate construction to start in the Spring of next year.

Large Scale Project

Cleasby on the River Tees

We anticipate that Cleasby will be a 100kW scheme, using a single Archimedean screw. Initial meetings with the planning authority have proved favourable. Initial discussions with the Environment Agency have helped to scope out the works required at Cleasby. We’re hopeful of starting construction in late spring or early summer 2012.

Large Scale Project

Past projects

Bainbridge

Bainbridge is a 45kW generator and was our first community hydro scheme to use a natural fall in the river. Working closely with the community, we obtained all the permissions and finance and construction started in 2010.

Saddleworth Hydro

We’re working closely with Saddleworth Community Hydro, the Industrial Provident Society which have an in principle agreement to proceed with the landowner. This will be the first community owned high head scheme in England and we are aiming at construction in the spring of 2013.

Settle

Settle was our second community hydro scheme, which we began to develop in 2008/09. We worked very closely with Settle Hydro, the Industrial Provident Society, to develop the scheme and obtained the planning permission, lease and abstraction license, together with the finance for the scheme. Settle is a 48kW Archimedean screw.

New Mills

Torrs Hydro New Mills

This was h2ope’s first community hydro scheme, which we began to develop in 2007. After several public meetings, numerous meetings with the local Town Council and a weekend consultation exercise, we were approached by several members of the community to work out a way in which they could be more involved.
